An image that stays with you

  • Create a one-of-a-kind analog piece that is not only visible but also tangible: On Saturday, October 24, 2026, Leica Welt, in collaboration with photographer Luis Seybold, invites you to a special workshop at the Leica Photo Studio. The focus is not on the technique, but on the result—a work of art you create yourself, one that impresses with its technical depth and visual power.

Collodion wet-plate photography is one of the most fascinating photographic processes of the 19th century. Its distinctive visual impact, the precision of the craftsmanship, and the uniqueness of each image continue to make it a special art form to this day. Under professional guidance, participants will experience the entire creative process and create their own 4x5-inch positive image on an aluminum plate.

From coating the plate to exposure, and on to development and fixing in the darkroom, every step of the process is clearly explained. The result is a one-of-a-kind piece that showcases the characteristic aesthetics of this historic process while bearing the personal signature of its creator.

The workshop is designed for anyone who wants to experience photography as a creative craft and form of artistic expression—regardless of prior photographic experience. In a small group of no more than six participants, Luis Seybold guides attendees through every step of the process, creating an environment conducive to focused work, relaxation, and creative experimentation. Leica Welt thus offers a space where photography transcends technique to become art.

All information regarding the safe handling of the chemicals used, as well as protective clothing and preparation, will be provided in advance. The participation fee is 549 euros, including a light lunch, coffee, water, and snacks. The workshop begins at 10 a.m. and ends around 6 p.m.

Please note: A minimum of 5 participants is required for the workshop to take place. Once the minimum number of participants is reached, attendees will receive a binding confirmation of participation as well as the invoice. The workshop fee must be paid by credit card or bank transfer within eight days of receiving the invoice. If the minimum number of participants is not reached, we will also inform you no later than two weeks before the event date. The General Terms and Conditions apply.

Please also note that part of the event takes place in our darkroom, which is not wheelchair accessible.
